The Indian EV industry can really do with some help. Companies shutting down, lack of government help, manufacturing plants facing closure, poor sales of EV's. Will we even meet the ambitious targets set by the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) ? Well, there is only one direction the industry can move from the current depths. And that is upwards!
From time immemorial all kinds of vehicles have been traveling on Indian roads... Right from the roads in Rameshwaram lying in the southern-most tip of the Indian peninsula to the highest motor-able road in the world - Khardung-La lying in the northernmost Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. All kinds of vehicles have been running on these the roads. But a certain lawyer in the High Court pleaded that this particular vehicle is dangerous for the well-being of all Indians, and the Judge conveniently ordered Electric Rickshaws to be banned. Welcome to incredible India!
Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) today is running at a whopping loss of Rs 55 Cr per month, Transport and Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed told the Assembly on 04 August 2012. When people think of electric vehicles, they think about battery technology, electric drive train and charging systems. But to be fair, the electric vehicle revolution is far more than that. It is a total shift from the gasoline ecosystem we are living in for the past century.
The petrol heads, the EV cynics and people who are resistant to change make an argument that EV's are as dirty as ICE based vehicles! This is what the Petrol lobby will tell you - "Your electric car is a coal powered car. There is nothing green about it!" - "What about the electricity? Electric vehicles will ensure our grid will one day collapse!" - "What about the batteries? Materials in them are toxic for the environment!! So using electric vehicles is not an option!"
We at PluginIndia will provide answers to these questions, you might encounter when you meet such people who argue just for the sake of arguing!
