Day 3 and 4 of our Chalo Chilli tour was very hectic but very exciting!
We visited DLF Mall of India at Noida to check out the work CleanMotion is doing. We met some amazing people at URV enterprises who are going to launch disruptive EV products soon. We then met the EV community and members of EV industry in an event organised by us. We thank Mahindra Electric, Hero Electric and Okinawa for showcasing the e2o Plus, Hero Electric Optima Li-Ion and Okinawa Ridge e-Scooter.
Going by the tremendous response of its test launch of Optima Lithium Battery E-Scooter, Hero Electric, the pioneer and front-runner in the Indian Electric two-wheeler industry, is now set to launch its entire range of high energy density Lithium battery Electric Scooters, this October.
Tork Motors wants to interact with the community in a big way as they prepare to launch their T6X electric motorcycle.

We at Ather energy have an update, regarding the development work of 'S340' - The next generation electric scooter.
'S340' is the much anticipated electric scooter that will raise the bar to a very high level as compared to current generation e-bikes being sold in India.
We have an update about the in-house Battery Management System(BMS) that is being developed and rigorous testing of the 'S340' at ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India), Pune. We also have moved to a new office!

The company Morello Yamasaki is now focussing on RnD on a new next generation lithium-ion based e-bike platform.
They wont be releasing any new products including Nirbhaya until beginning of 2017.
Also they plan to rebrand and change their name. We will keep you posted!

Given the atrocities that happen to women in Indian cities from time to time, an electric vehicle company is thinking ahead by
launching an e-bike called 'Nirbhaya' with innovative safety features for women riders. This e-bike will be manufactured and sold by the Ahmedabad based Indo-Japanese electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Morello Yamasaki.
Let me congratulate Ather on their success in getting funding of $1 million. They have done a lot of hardwork to deserve it. But let me warn that Mahindra had invested 20 times more in the Mahindra e2o and are struggling to sell. Let's not repeat the mistakes of e2o.
But before coming to that let me say that Raju Venkatraman, Sachin and Binny Bansal have given the Indian Automobile industry a big boost by investing in the Ather idea. If successful, this will surely change the face of motorcycling not only in India but also in Africa and South East Asia.
Over the last year at PlugInIndia we were really heartened to see that there are multiple startup-bike-developers who are trying to develop their own e-bikes. And all of them from India. There were at least seven such startups who contacted us which proves 2 things - one there is a lot of development going on and second most of them are in unorganised sector.
Which would be the first company to mass produce a powerful Electric Bike?... Honda?...Yamaha? … Ducati?
Wrong…the answer is Harley!... Yep you heard it right Harley Davidson!
Automotive Engineer Josef Memmel is not only an expat and businessman but above all he is a visionary who is passionate about Electric Vehicles and the environment. He has designed quite a few electric bikes, some of which have solar roof. The vehicles with Solar roof do not need to be manually plugged in to be charged. His own bike has never been manually charged till date.
Mr Johnson's excellent blog on the state of e-bikes in India, makes good reading. The current generation e-bikes are really stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Lets face it, most e-bikes that are sold in India are under powered, take 7-8 hours to charge, use unreliable lead acid batteries and have not sold well and thus have not made a dent in the Indian two wheeler market.
All of this is about to change. There is hope for the Indian two wheeler industry to have an electric future.
