Given the atrocities that happen to women in Indian cities from time to time, an electric vehicle company is thinking ahead by
launching an e-bike called 'Nirbhaya' with innovative safety features for women riders. This e-bike will be manufactured and sold by the Ahmedabad based Indo-Japanese electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Morello Yamasaki.
Morello Yamasaki already havecouple of bikes for sale. These are basic Valve Regulated Lead Acid battery based e-bikes that have a top speed of 25 kmph.
Nirbhaya would be their third product for the Indian market and is targeted specifically for Women.
The e-bike will have a special feature, where the bike will be equipped with an SOS button for emergencies. The SOS button will have its own SIM card and use GPS or GPRS to send an SMS in case of an emergency. This will help women drivers send multiple SMS to six different mobile numbers at the same time in case of an emergency.
The handle of the Nirbhaya bike will have this special SOS button. These numbers can be pre configured by the user.
Discount for Women
The vehicle will be priced around Rs 35,000 and Morello Yamasaki will offer a special 10 percent discount to all women buyers.
According to reliable sources within the company, Morello Yamasaki plans to launch the e-bike in the month of May. This bike will be launched in the following states - Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan.
They will also launch a "high-speed" version of "Nirbhaya" in the next six months.
We @PluginIndia feel that this kinds of innovative work, distinguishes the EV industry from the regular Automobile industry.
We should expect more from Morello Yamasaki for the Indian market.
I had the pleasure of checking out the Alpha version of the bike in Mumbai last week and also met the
CEO of Morello Yamasaki - Mr Rajit Arya. The bike is definitely going to look like a next generation product.
The bike launch is postponed to Diwali this year.
We will do a detailed review of this bike sometime in October. Watch this space!
