Dear Mr. Chetan Maini,
You don’t know me. Yes, we both might be from India, but currently we live in different parts of the world, we probably speak different language at homes. But there is one thing common to us, a passion for electric vehicles. Because we both strongly believe that that is good thing for lots of reasons. Well, you know all of that. And you were smart enough to start a electric car company way back in 90s. But then some things happened and at this moment you do not seem to be in the driving seat of that venture.
Raphae Halim, my good friend and part of our review team suggested something few months back, that set a lot of things into motion over the last month or so. This is what Raphae said - 'Businesses/Vacation Homes/Shops/Resorts/Hotels' are places that can easily install level 2 charging stations. All they need to do is install 15 Amps sockets and provide some parking space for electric vehicles. Thus began my quest to work on a fun project, what i call - Community Charging Stations.

"I congratulate PluginIndia for successfully completing a year in their pursuit of spreading awareness of EVs in the backdrop of growing environmental deterioration. As citizens of this planet, we are standing at important crossroads and the silver lining is that some of us, like PluginIndia, have taken up the initiative of directing the world into a greener lifestyle by promoting eco-friendly and smart technologies like EVs.
EV technology has come a long way since 1914 and today, we are certain of EV's becoming mainstream in the next 5-10 years. Globally, EV sales are growing at a rate of 85% year on year with 112050 pure EVs being sold in 2013 alone.

August 2016 Update
Way back in 2014 :) We have come a long way! Original Blog September is a very exciting month for PluginIndia: it’s our birthday! We are quite proud of how far we’ve come and that we could help so many people understand EV's and Clean Tech better. It’s been an exciting year for us at PluginIndia and we have made incredible number of friends in the EV and clean tech industry from around the world and have helped many people to buy electric vehicles and go green! I have decided to compile some stories, reader comments, fun facts that we have gathered over the last year.

Its been a great year working on PlugInIndia along with Kamlesh and team. It has been amazing to say the least!
Initially I thought if our website were able to get about 200 hits per day would have been great as Electric Vehicles were and still is, a minor fraction of the automobile population of the world. If this site was about conventional automobiles then there would have been a lot more stuff and about vehicles that are released all around the world. But for an electric-vehicle dedicated website there is just one car in India and a few fancy cars that strut their stuff around the world apart from cheap electric bikes. The other day an Electric car manufacturer said “I hope you guys don’t buy our electric car as it is a loss making car for us but we are forced by the government to make it”. So, on one hand the market itself is very small... and in that market 99.99% of the people are either misinformed or have no idea about what the electric vehicle is all about. On top of that there are companies that do not want you to buy their EVs. Show me a more complicated market than this. So the expectation of getting around 1,600 hits per day was never there.
I just felt like taking a day off my crazy schedule. I decided to take my Mahindra e2o electric car for a spin to the mountains near Pune city. I decided to go to Lavasa, around 58 km from home. My plan was to just walk in the rain, do nothing, stare at the mist covered mountains, enjoy good food and also check out the Segway rides, launched recently. The concern at the back of my mind was this - I needed to cover 120 km (2 way) on an electric car that goes 100 km. And that too the route involved climbing steep hills - a big battery drainer. I did the same trip one year back, i barely made it back! (The magic of Regen!) This year, i wanted to plug in the car to ensure i was comfortable getting back.
But this time, what i found out was that, businesses and people, generally go out of their way to ensure EVs are plugged in and you return safely home. All you need to do is ask! |
