So Bajaj, the Indian auto behemoth, has finally showcased the Chetak electric scooter in their experience centers and showrooms in Pune and Bengaluru. The response has been fantastic and the company claims that bookings numbers have exceeded expectations. Also there has been tremendous enthusiasm by the EV community and fans of the Bajaj brand.
When we talk about electric scooters, we have to also talk about the dashing young electric scooter startup - Ather Energy. They have upped the ante with their Ather 450 electric scooter to such a high level, that even ICE manufacturers like Bajaj, TVS are still catching up. And in January 2020, Ather has enhanced their product further by increasing performance, and adding new features. This is the Ather 450X, which is scheduled to be released in monsoon 2020. So just how does Bajaj’s Chetak compare to Ather’s 450X? Akhil Venkateshwaran is an owner of the Hyundai Kona Electric SUV, based out of Bengaluru. Ather Energy has been doing a lot of outreach sessions with open houses in multiple cities, following the unveiling of the Ather 450X electric scooter. They have got a lot of negative publicity over the last couple of weeks due to their price hikes, monthly subscription fees for connectivity and unpopular power packs.
We have documented all, in our popular podcast and we have also asked the question in our poll of the month for Feb 2020 (seen in our Homepage) and the response has been very critical of Ather. Despite having a slight leg sprain, i could not miss the opportunity to meet the Ather team and get their perspective of things and also take a look at the 450X. So this is what we learnt.
