The best practices used to charge batteries of gadgets like laptops, can also apply to the lithium-ion batteries of electric cars and e-bikes. If you have an EV, it makes sense to follow these bests practices, as lithium-ion batteries for automobiles can be very expensive. You might want to keep them healthy and happy for many years.

India’s coal bubble is perilously close to bursting.
Last week the Indian court system handed down three landmark energy rulings. While an ultimate decision still looms, the combined weight of these initial rulings reaffirms one thing -- it’s time to diversify away from coal. Of the three rulings, the most talked about came in response to public outrage over sweetheart deals for private mining companies that provided access to coal mine leases for next to nothing. The discovery of these backroom deals -- now referred to as the ‘coal gate’ scandal -- has rocked the Indian government, and the coal sector, for well over two years. The court’s ruling found that 218 of these leases were illegal, in a sweeping verdict that affects all mine leases issued from 1993 through 2010.

Over the last year at PlugInIndia we were really heartened to see that there are multiple startup-bike-developers who are trying to develop their own e-bikes. And all of them from India. There were at least seven such startups who contacted us which proves 2 things - one there is a lot of development going on and second most of them are in unorganised sector.

"I congratulate PluginIndia for successfully completing a year in their pursuit of spreading awareness of EVs in the backdrop of growing environmental deterioration. As citizens of this planet, we are standing at important crossroads and the silver lining is that some of us, like PluginIndia, have taken up the initiative of directing the world into a greener lifestyle by promoting eco-friendly and smart technologies like EVs.
EV technology has come a long way since 1914 and today, we are certain of EV's becoming mainstream in the next 5-10 years. Globally, EV sales are growing at a rate of 85% year on year with 112050 pure EVs being sold in 2013 alone.

Its been a great year working on PlugInIndia along with Kamlesh and team. It has been amazing to say the least!
Initially I thought if our website were able to get about 200 hits per day would have been great as Electric Vehicles were and still is, a minor fraction of the automobile population of the world. If this site was about conventional automobiles then there would have been a lot more stuff and about vehicles that are released all around the world. But for an electric-vehicle dedicated website there is just one car in India and a few fancy cars that strut their stuff around the world apart from cheap electric bikes. The other day an Electric car manufacturer said “I hope you guys don’t buy our electric car as it is a loss making car for us but we are forced by the government to make it”. So, on one hand the market itself is very small... and in that market 99.99% of the people are either misinformed or have no idea about what the electric vehicle is all about. On top of that there are companies that do not want you to buy their EVs. Show me a more complicated market than this. So the expectation of getting around 1,600 hits per day was never there.
Hydrogen is always touted as a next generation fuel that can replace gasoline. Researchers across the world are developing highly efficient and long lasting fuel cell systems. These fuel cell systems are replacing diesel generators and gasoline engines in cars and diesel engines in trucks and buses. Car makers such as Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and Volkswagen are pouring tremendous amount of money in the research and development of hydrogen fuel cell cars. So now there is emerging competition between electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to become default zero emission system. Fuel cell vehicles have zero tailpipe emission just like a standard electric car but there are significant differences between these two vehicle types. These differences need assessment as that will decide whether future zero emission transportation will be fuel cell or battery electric.
