Bengaluru - Chennai on an electric car
So Bengaluru to Chennai. This is an extremely popular route. Lots of people drive between these two important south Indian cities. This drive should be easy for EV owners as you are descending from 900m to 0m - sea level. The Charge Point Operators operating between the two cities are - Zeon Charging and Relux Electric, who have completely electrified the highway. We also have Tata Power who have only partially added charging stations on this route.
So Bengaluru to Chennai. This is an extremely popular route. Lots of people drive between these two important south Indian cities. The EV Drive
Let’s talk about your electric car drive between Bengaluru and Chennai. This guide is for cars like Tata Nexon EV, Tigor EV. If you have an MG or Kona or any other electric car with larger batteries, you can work around this guide - skip a stop and carry on. Also this guide is created by consulting with real Nexon EV owners who have done this trip. So it's a reliable guide! Let's start!
- Start your drive from Bengaluru at 100% and start driving towards Electronic City on NH-44. Cross into the Tamil Nadu border after driving for around 85 km, you should be arriving at your first charging stop at Krishnagiri. You have three options from Zeon Charging, Relux Electric and Tata Power. Take your pick.
- Let’s check-in to the Zeon Charger at Hotel Surya Complex. All you need to do is to top up the charge for 30 minutes. Use the Zeon app and start charging.
- There are multiple restaurants at the complex to refresh yourself.
- This charger has a perfect 5 star rating given by 60 individuals. That shows the quality of the ABB equipment, Zeon’s service and power supply.

- Once you finish charging, switch to highway 48 going east towards the town of Vellore. After driving for around 117 km, you should be arriving at your second charging stop near Vellore. You have three options from Zeon Charging, Relux Electric and Tata Power. Take your pick.
- Let’s check-in to the Zeon Charger at HOTEL ARYAAS PURE VEG
- All you need to do is to top up the charge for 40 minutes. Use the Zeon app and start charging.
- There is a hotel Aryaas to refresh yourself.
- Once you finish charging, continue towards Chennai on highway 48 for 157 km. It’s a drive on flat roads with no worry about hills.
- Congratulations! You have made it! Your electric car is now rocking in the Bay of Bengal at Chennai!

If you use a petrol car, you would spend 7 hours 13 min driving and take 2 breaks totalling to about 45 mins = 7 hours 58 mins to reach Chennai. If you use an electric car like the Nexon EV or Tigor EV, you would spend 7 hours 13 min driving and take 1 hour 10 min for charging the car and yourself. Total time is = 8 hours 23 min. The additional time in an electric car is just 25 mins compared to an ICE car, which is fantastic!
Costs
If you use a petrol car, the petrol costs would be around Rs 2570. If you use an electric car, the charging costs would be around Rs 520. Massive savings of Rs 2050
