Here is a photo blog of my quick trip to the 2020 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Electric Vehicles was the focus for many companies, but many companies showcased EV's just for some PR without having any plans to launch them. Its very easy to find them out!
We wont go into the specs of each as the auto industry is notorious for showcasing concepts that will never see the light of day in terms of production.
Let's have some colorful fun shall we!
Tata Motors
One company dead serious about EV's is Tata Motors! After the successful launch of the Nexon EV, they also showcased future possible production electric cars like the Altroz EV and Tata Sierra giant electric SUV (White SUV below pic). Lets see if Altroz EV would be the next production electric from Tata Motors!

Hero Electric
Hero Electric has the largest numbers in terms of electric two wheeler sales! We feel they need to move on from low speed scooters and do more as discussed in our podcast
A electric motorcycle AE-47 from Hero electric was shown. This looks similar to Revolt motorcycle specs. Launch date is not announced. This looks like a direct import to me.
They also showcased a trike called AE-3 - a trike with a self standing gyroscope stability feature!
Hero electric showcased many such 'high power' concepts in Auto Expo 2018 - but none made it anywhere near Hero Electric dealerships!  So what makes us think, this time will be any different?

Renault
ZzzzzzzzZ...
Every auto expo they get the electric Zoe and Twizzy but never have any plans of getting them for India!  They are happy to keep selling their OIL guzzling Dusters for the Indian market!

Mahindra Electric
Once upon a time there were the only flag flyers for Electric Vehicles in India! This time they showcased the eKUV100 which will be launched in 2020. The gigantic eXUV 300 will launch sometime in 2021. Then there was the high voltage platform called MESMA which was shown in 2018 - Let's hope we have production EV's on the MESMA platform soon.
Then there was this intriguing small car called Mahindra Atom expected to cost Rs 5 Lakhs.
And it was great to see EV legends from the Delhi community Captain Sanjay and Rita Nahata EV owners for past 20+ years!

Force Electric Vans
Pune-based automotive giant Force Motors unveiled their upcoming commercial van that based on the new T1N shared mobility platform in India.
Lets see if this will even be made available this year.

Great Wall Motors
China’s largest sport vehicle manufacturer, Great Wall Motors will be the second vehicle manufacturer from China to enter the Indian market after SAIC Motor Corp-owned MG Motor India.
They showcased the GWM iQ, electric compact fastback sedan and also an electric hatchback called ORA R1. It remains to be seen when they will launch these EV's in India.
Given that they have started a manufacturing facility near Pune and plans to invest around ₹7000 crore in India in a phased manner, the is a company to watch!

MG Motors
China’s MG Motors showcased their MG ZS EV which is released in India and a small electric car which wont be released and yet they showcase it!

Others
Evolet showcased some new electric motorcycles and a cargo loader called Dhanno!  An innovative company called SunRun showcased an electric rickshaw with solar panels on all sides of the body. They run a free service at Sector 51 Noida metro station. Then there was a battery swapping solution showcased by a Pune based company Chheda Electricals and you can see yours truly along with Chetan Maini of Sun Mobility!
Ultimately a new electric car was born! Haima Automobile, is a Chinese automotive manufacturing company based in Haikou, Hainan. They collaborated with Bird Electric - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bird Group to manufacture Bird Electric EV1. The group showcased the electric car which they claim to be a sub 10 Lakh EV with range of around 200 km.
Let's see if this too is just another Uniti from the 2018 Auto Expo!
And then there is Vespa - The Italian giant who have been showing their Vespa Elettrica since 2016 auto expo with no intension of launching it! ZzzzzzzzzzZ!

Will 2020 be an year of increased diversity? Tata and Mahindra still seem to be the only big names in 4 wheeler electric.

Tata is only one who is serious.
Hyundai, MG are happy to sell in small numbers and are focused on selling their ICE SUV's

Lets hope Mahindra gets some solid options.

Thanks for the overview. As I’m new to the BEV scene in India it was very informative. Very exciting to see so many BEVs that I didn’t know yet from my knowledge I have on the European market.
