Fomm Concept One - the floating Electric Car

A bout of heavy rain in Qatar, where i live, got the streets and underpasses flooded which got me thinking… rains are not necessarily nice... it can mess up people's homes and cars too. That the biggest enemy of an Electric Vehicle would be the rains and floods… But what if your Electric car can float on water and even wade through it almost like a boat? What then?

Wallahi!!! You are in luck! Fomm Concept One is an electric car designed to survive the rains and the flooding that come with it. Fomm claims that the vehicle is the world’s smallest four-seat electric car, it also claims the Concept One can float. This makes the vehicle very safe vehicle and it would not disappoint even in the worst kind of flood... it could save yours and other people's life!

The Fomm Concept One - I really dont want my car to fly but I DO NEED the car to raise up when it starts flooding... I say this since I am from Mumbai and we are all familiar with flooding in Monsoon :-)
This unusual car is designed for areas that are vulnerable to flooding and places where there is heavy rain. This has become a prevalent concern in Japan in the wake of the 2011 Tohoku tsunami. The Mahindra e2o engineers have to pay close attention in incorporate something similar in their vehicle too.

With motorcycle-like handlebars for controls the car features a sliding door for easy to access to the back seat. The Concept One weighs a scant 1,014 pounds, (almost the same as the e2o) and is powered by two in-wheel electric motors that produce 6.7 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque each.

The Concept One is also equipped with a “water-jet generator” that allows for some maneuverability once it starts floating and the wheels are off the road. As of now the Concept One isn’t a fully amphibious vehicle; it can’t be driven like a boat, and requires some maintenance after taking a plunge, but that doesn’t mean a future model cannot be driven.

A vehicle that can float and remain watertight can be very helpful if you consider that the car can double up as a 4 person boat! But it would have been great if we would have been able to control where we are going. The company says the specifications it quoted are just “target design values,” so most probably the Concept One is just that: a concept - but an amazing concept!!!

Seating arrangement and the revolutionary handle bar instead of steering wheel...and of course digital speedometer!
I would really love if my car is not only capable of 4x4 but can also navigate over water... but then who wouldn't? Then... only your car will move while all the best cars in the world will line up like a piece of junk.

This type of cars are the need of India, now to compete with hectic parking space problem, traffic jams and narrow roads.
I am interested if it is available in India
