Today we will learn some things about your EV. This is not only about OLA. These maintenance tips are for all EV 2 wheelers
Tip #1 - Protect Tire Valves
You can see these valve (see pics below) in these tires. In this valve, there are no caps. It is important to have this cap. As this protects the valve's internal part, which is copper based. When the scooter goes in water and dust, all of that goes inside and damages the valve. If this valve is damaged, you have to remove the tyre and the Rim. If you go to a puncture guy, he wont remove it properly. Also the disc brake is attached. If there is even a slight tilt or change in position, there can be issues or expenses. You get these valve caps, which is available online or in tyre shops. Whenever you go to file air, always close the cap, which will help you in the future from issues. It easily fits in and when you fill air, ensure you place the cap and when you fix punctures, tell the guy to always use the caps.

Tip #2 - Tighten all bolts
Any 2 wheeler has these toolkits which are provided and mandated by the government. In the OLA S1 Pro, they are in the boot here and there are 2 types of toolkits, one for humans for any medical emergency - hopefully no one needs to use that. Other toolkit is for the vehicle. I'm speaking about OLA, as you can see we have these tools, you have alan keys rated at 14, 8 and you have a spanner. If your running is more than 30 km per day, then every week you need to check the bolts of the wheels, not so tight, but gently tighten any loose bolts. Issues like wheels coming off, or other issues can be avoided. Check these 5 bolts every week. If your running is lesser than 30 km per day then once a month you can check it. This is an important tip, sometimes when company sends the scooter from factory it can be loose. During transport, the bolts can get loose and if one is loose instead of 5 bolts working only 4 will do the work while riding and this can cause tyre issues. This is a very important tip. Same thing you need to check in the back wheel and tighten all the bolts. Next is to check the bolts of the suspension area. We have seen how in some cases the suspension is broken. As you can see we have a mono suspension, there is a fishbone attachment here and two Alan key bolts. Even these bolts have to be tightened. In 15 mins you can check all the bolts. Now we have the spanner, which we will check the back suspension area. You have bolts here, tighten these too. If you do this you can save yourself from maintenance issues.

Tip #3 - Clean Motor area with Gentle Water Spray
On the OLA, you need to clean the mid drive motor. The motor is in such a location , where the tyre throws all the dirt onto it. This is an air cooled motor and all the dirt and grime is here. This will affect the cooling of this motor too. when you are going on long trips or revving it. Your motor will become hot and you have to clean it. I will show you how to clean it. We use rainwater harvesting water, which we store. this is rain water, we don't waste water. I would not recommend you to pressure wash the scooter, gentle spray is needed. Avoid high pressure wash at garages. I'm going to apply some pressure, as you can see, there is so much dirt. Also there is the controller here, dont give too much pressure here. The water is rain water harvested and the pump we use also is solar power! I have cleaned the motor now. Now it feels as if there is a motor here! The fins are provided to increase the surface area, now the motor will cool properly. Also take care of the connector and avoid direct spray here. It is better than before. I think this is good.

Tip #4 - Clean Disc Brakes with Gentle Water Spray
Disc brake cleaning. This is a simple technology. This is a disc and the brake pad and caliper. When you brake, the liners get activated and it holds the disc and you stop. All the dirt goes on the disc and onto the brake pads, which affects braking. This may affect braking performance. You need to use a pipe and clean the disc brake area. Near the brake pads. This will get rid of all the dirt collected here. The pads will get damaged due to the dirt accumulated and this can also affect your range. Now we will clean this. The calipers are hidden, you have to apply pressure on them. As you can see the dirt coming down. Sometimes you may get black powdered water, which is from the wear and tear of the pads. Once this is done, always test the brakes, as it does take some time to set. Also clean the suspension area. Whatever dirt can be removed, must be removed for better performance. the rattling noises can be eliminated. You can see the dirt from your scooter. This dirt screw's up the mechanical components like disc, suspension on the scooter. You have to get rid of it. As you can see all the mud is falling down. So much mud and dirt! See how clean it has become. I will remove the scooter and show you. I will move the scooter and you can see all the mud, dirt and grime gone from your scooter. Definitely do this to help improve the performance of your EV. Do this and your EV will work fine for years.

Final Thoughts
I have two Okinawa electric scooters and every Sunday, I clean them disc brakes and suspension areas. I check the brake oil, tighten the nuts and bolts. I also spray it and clean them. This back portion will always get dirty. The Ola has a fiber body so its okay, but dirt on a metal scooter can cause rust issues. I'm double checking the motor once more. It's very nice now! This is from my years of experience using two wheelers. Also the motor heating issue, can be because of inadequate air cooling due to dust. There is less air flow and thus it may heat the motor more. See how the motor is so clean now. You can easily feel that it is also nice and cool to touch. Earlier when I used to go on short rides, it used to feel very hot. Now I can easily touch the motor. As you can see the cleaning definitely has an affect on the motor cooling. Now after cleaning, let's test the braking by going on a short ride. I can feel that it's so smooth now. All rattling, sounds are gone. Also braking is nice and strong. Now with just a 15 min effort... Your EV feels better. Write in comments below, how it feels after cleaning. This tip is applicable for those scooters that have disc brakes. We have many models which have rear drum brakes. We need to take care of not exposing lots of water to drum brakes as braking can get affected for a while. Also most scooters nowadays have hub motors, which are on the wheels. Hub motors wont attract so much dirt and grime. Mid drive motors needs to be cleaned as shown. So these were tips to maintain your electric scooter. I hope you will follow these.
