The PluginIndia team had the opportunity to create content on the award winning Jaguar I-PACE electric car. We asked the JLR team if we could also do a EV Community meet along with test rides. The JLR team agreed and we organized the event at our friend's biogas farm, which we featured last year. Here is the video and writeup on the wonderful community meetup.
Video: Jaguar I-PACE Electric Car: Community Meetup & Test Rides
Date: Sunday, August 15th 2021
Location: Cafe Climate, Nere, Pune
Event: EV Community Meet and Test drives with Jaguar I-PACE
At 2:00 PM, we visited a 22 kW slow AC charger which was installed at a petrol pump in Chinchwad area to top up the I-PACE’s battery pack. A Pune based startup had installed the charger and they were there to ensure everything was working fine. We stayed on for about 45 minutes - and the 12 KW charger managed to pump 9 kWH into the I-PACE battery. We were billed Rs. 24 for that, which we thought was ludicrously low. But anyway we wished the people of the startup well and left the charging station.
At 4:00 PM, we left for Cafe Climate, Nere after our charging. Google maps had decided to act up - and we chose to unGoogle ourselves and go by memory for a change. We found that a lot of folks who we had invited at the community event there had faced the same problem. About 20 people landed up. We started with a farm tour. Pratik, from the JLR team, had landed up to help with the test rides. We scheduled the rides in parallel - 3 people at a time. Priyadarshan has converted one of his goat sheds into a meeting area. After a very interesting biogas discussion, we invited Abhay to talk about battery tech. This was followed by some snacks and tea.
Kamlesh was busy shooting scenes at the test drive area and once a batch was over, he took some soundbites from people. Most of the replies were extremely positive on the I-PACE.
With the I-PACE’s incredible acceleration and torque, we could sense adrenaline flowing freely in people after every test ride!
All in all a good event and we really appreciate the work by Pratik Malwe from JLR Pune, for patiently explaining the car features and taking everyone on a test drive.
Industry-Community events are very important for the electric vehicle industry. PluginIndia has enabled such events before and this event was as memorable and important as the ones we did in previous years.
We thank the JLR team, especially Switzel and Drone from the JLR Mumbai team, for making this possible
