To fulfil the Tree Plantation Pledge, LightSpeed has partnered with SankalpTaru Foundation, an NGO that assists Indian farmers in planting fruit bearing trees, to empower them through an additional income source.
For its first round of Tree Plantation, LightSpeed planted mango saplings in Sangli, a small village in Maharashtra.
Each sapling is geo-tagged with individual LightSpeed customers’ names, and its growth can be tracked online using a unique permanent link, or by scanning a QR Code. A certificate is also given to each customer, to congratulate them for having played a pivotal role in improving the green cover in India, as well as empowering a farmer.
The certificate will act as a heartening reminder of the change initiated by a customer when they consciously choose LightSpeed.
LightSpeed’s message to its patrons: "These trees have come into existence because pro-environment individuals all over India went out and purchased a LightSpeed Bicycle. Where there are trees, there is a marked increase in other flora and fauna, too; thereby leading to an increase in bio-diversity, better rainfalls, and better lives for locals. Your initiative has led to the beginning of a beautiful green revolution in your motherland."
