The EV Drive

Let’s talk about your electric car drive between Delhi and Shimla. This guide is for cars like Tata Nexon EV, Tigor EV.  If you have an MG or Kona or any other electric car with larger batteries, you can work around this guide - skip a stop and carry on. Also this guide is created by consulting with real Nexon EV owners who have done this trip. So it's a reliable guide! Let's start!
  • Start your drive from Delhi at 100% SOC and start driving north towards NH 44. Keep driving on NH 44 until you reach the town of Karnal, HR. There is a hotel called Neelkanth Star Kamal which has a 50 kW DC charger installed by Statiq Charging. There are more fast chargers in the Karnal area, if this does not work, you have good backup.
    • From north west Delhi, we estimate that you will reach the charger at 42% SOC.
    • All you need to do is to top up the charge for 50 minutes. Use the Statiq app and start charging upto 95%
    • And you have restaurants like Neelkanth for quick lunch or snacks or chai.
    • Reviews
      • Dinesh Kumar, owner of a Nexon EV says
"Nice location with good restaurants. Charger working"
      • Mukesh Sethi, owner of a MG ZS EV says
        "
        Good Fast Charger"
  • Once you finish charging, continue on highway NH 48 and you should merge onto highway 152 and drive for 115 km. You will reach the town of Bassi, PB
    • We are stopping here for a quick top up of 25 mins. You will reach here with an SOC of 40%.
    • It is recommended to charge here upto 70% SOC and you can reach Shimla comfortably. If you have a Kona, MG ZS EV or BYD e6 you can skip this stop.
  • Once you finish charging, continue on highway 5. The drive distance is 49 km, which includes 18 km of climbing the Himalayan ghats. Drive towards the mountain town of Jabli, HP where we have the Statiq Fast charger.
    • You should get there with 50% SOC remaining.
    • Charge for 40 mins until the car has 95% SOC.
    • You have food options like McDonalds, Dominos here.
    • Reviews
      • Vivek Ahuja, owner of a Nexon EV says
"My friend was In MG ZS EV and wanted to go further than Jabli! So I left ccs2 for him and i used the Type 2 gun for my Nexon EV. Both the cars were charging fine. The dual guns work great!"
      • Mukesh Sethi, owner of a MG ZS EV says
        "
        Good Fast Charger"
  • Once you finish charging, continue on himalayan highway 5 amidst stunning scenery, drive towards Shimla for 76 km. You should reach Shimla with an SOC of 20-25%.
  • Congratulations! You have made it! Your electric car is now rocking in the Himalayas!

Time
If you use a petrol car, you would spend 7 hours 37 min driving and take a 45 min break for lunch and a 20 min break for tea. The total journey time = 8 hours 42 mins to reach Jaipur. If you use an electric car, you would spend 7 hours 46 min driving and take 2 hours 5 min for charging the car and yourself. Total time is = 9 hours 51 min
The additional time in an electric car is around 1 hour compared to an ICE car, which is understandable given we are climbing the himalayan ghats and it makes sense to top up before the ghat starts.

Do understand in the return journey, you will gain so much Regen that you will only have to stop at one stop. That is the magic of electric cars.

Costs
If you use a petrol car, the petrol costs would be around Rs 2750. If you use an electric car, the charging costs would be around Rs 347. Massive savings of Rs 2403

Mobile Apps
The mobile apps you will need for this journey are the Statiq, Tata Power, ElectreeFi, E-Fill, Plugshare
