Northway Motorsport has officially introduced a new kits to convert Maruti Dzire and Tata Ace petrol or diesel engine vehicles to pure electric.
Pune based Northway Motorsports has taken a leap by introducing Electric Kits for Maruti Dzire and Tata Ace. The kits are road legal, and the converted car’s RC will get an endorsement from the RTO.
"These are plug and play kits", says Hemank Dabade. "You don’t need to change anything else, except for removing the petrol engine from the Dzire, and install the EV kit. It uses the same mounting points as the petrol engine. The functionalities of other features like instrument console, AC, audio system, or even the manual transmission – all remains unaffected by this EV kit installation".
There are two separate conversion kits for Maruti Dzire
Drive EZ for City
Range: 120km
Charging Time: 5-6 hrs
Top Speed: 80 km/hr (Commercial), 140 km/hr (Private),
Travel EZ for long-distance commutes.
Range: 250km
Charging Time: 8-10 hrs
Top Speed: 80 km/hr (Commercial), 140 km/hr (Private),
Bookings for Drive EZ range has commenced at a token amount of Rs 25,000 with the final price of the conversion kit to be pegged around Rs 5-6 lakh, available for Maruti Swift Dzire 2017 model onwards

Charging Time: 5-6 hrs
Fast Charge : 2 hrs
Top Speed: 80 km/hr (Commercial)
Damdaar
Range: 120km

The Shaandaar EV conversion kit offers a range of 80-100km and is primarily designed for intra-city commutes. Available for Tata Ace 2018 model onwards
For servicing, Northway Motorsport has partnered with Bhartiya EV or BEV to setup charging infrastructure as well as service points across India. It also plans to set up a dealer and charging network in Maharashtra in the next 3-7 months.

We spoke to the founder of Northway MotorSports, Mr. Hemank Dabade. He informed us that they have received lot of interest, have lot of bookings as of now and apparently deliveries will begin after 6 months. He also told us that all products will come with a 2 yr warranty. We don't know the specifics of the warranty yet, but hopefully once we meet him, take a look at the car, product, we will have more information.
We were curious about the warranty because the e2o kit that Northway sells had warranty issues. These new products have warranty of 2 yrs. For a retrofit this warranty period is good. The motor controller, battery pack and every component in the kit should be covered ideally.
If someone has Swift Dzire, its a great option to convert the Petrol / Diesel Car into electric. Spend 5-6 lakhs and get a 120km or 250 km car. Converting old cars rather than manufacturing new cars is more environment friendly. We prefer that more too. There are thousands of Swift Dzires in India. Its very good to see such a kit available at a very reasonable price.
We also came to know that Northway has partnered with Bhartiye EV to setup service points all over India. Starting with Maharashtra and then Pan India. They are thinking of service which is as essential a factor as manufacturing and sales.
