PluginIndia's Take
We are very happy to see Mahindra Electric focussing on commercial electric vehicles. That is where Mahindra has traditionally been very good at.
What caught our attention is that Mahindra is making all of the Treo Zor in India except the Lithium-Ion cells. We saw the CTO of Mahindra Electric explain how the Motor, Electronics, BMS and battery pack are made in-house.
This is brilliant to know and it shows how far Indian companies are pushing towards localization and to get rid of the Chinese dependence.
Another point is that ME is continuing with the LFP cells, which have worked very well in India. The Mahindra e2o, eVerito and the Treo electric auto all use LFP cells. We also got to know that cells used are CALB based cells.
Another revealing aspect is the investment in Electric Vehicle technology by Mahindra Electric. They have invested Rupees 500 CR in a dedicated EV Technology RnD center in Bengaluru and also creating a manufacturing facility to make Electronics, Battery Packs, Motor in our Pune.
All in all, we are very happy with ME's focus and efforts towards localization.
