PluginIndia's Take
We recently spoke to Mr Syed Mubasheer, the founder of Cellestial mobility, which is a startup that is launching electric tractor in India. But this electric tractor is a first from a large player - Sonalika Tractors.
In India, where an average tractor can cost between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, the Tiger Electric is priced at Rs 5.99 lakh, which seems competitive especially with the fuel savings.
The tractor will offer a 'range' of 8 hours with a 2 ton load while consuming 25 units of electricity. The company claims that the electric tractor will offer savings of upto 75% of the fuel cost, which is impressive.
Sonalika could offer this Tiger electric tractor for the Indian as well as the export market, which would help drive numbers initially. Diesel prices have been moving upwards and fuel costs are a concern for the farmers. We wish the company adds a total cost of ownership data when using the Tiger electric tractor.
Hats off to the forward looking team at Sonalika. We wish tractor giants like Mahindra wakes up and stops this diesel addiction.
And finally team, Sonalika, we loved your tiger electric tractor promotional video :)
