Talwar Auto Garages PVT Ltd, a south India based automotive distributor has placed a purchase order of 2,000 electric semi-trucks from the US based company Triton EV to be delivered next year.

Himanshu Patel, the CEO of Triton electric shared that they have received an order for their Semi-trucks from a company based in South India, Talwar Auto Garages PVT Ltd. The trucks ordered are worth USD 300 million (₹ 21,76,96,50,000).
The trucks are expected to arrive next year and will be distributed to Talwar Auto Garages clients in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and Hyderabad. Triton EV was able to produce the prototype in just over one month, a remarkable achievement considering the typical years-long development cycle for computing vehicles in the industry. The trucks will be made in USA, exported to India. It is a hybrid of hydrogen fuels that generate electricity stored in on-board 300KWH Battery and Hydrogen cell stack. It has a 220,000-pound towing capacity, the same as any comparable diesel truck on the road. Himanshu also said, "The truck uses a hydrogen fuel cell generator to put power back into the battery. The motor runs off the battery, which provides the necessary torque for a truck of this size. Triton-EV Semi-truck is estimated to have a range of approximately 350 miles and higher" Estimated price of the truck will be USD 150,00 and USD 250,000 No other features or specification mentioned on the website. Triton Electric is a New Jersey,USA registered company. If we look at their website, they have computer aided design(CAD) drawings of all kinds of EV's - A sedan, an electric SUV, a Semi truck, a rickshaw and defense electric vehicles. Wait! CAD drawings and no real photos or specifications or videos of their vehicles. Nope. We do have one video of the Truck in action and that was shot in USA. We really have no idea if they will import the truck or setup a plant here. We have written to them, lets hope we get an answer.
But we do have news that Triton has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Telangana to open its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the state’s Zahirabad area. And the Telangana government, too, has given an order of 3000 EV's to Triton, which is concerning as Triton is still a startup that has no major production vehicle track record.
Now this concerns us because we are not sure about the company's ability to manufacture vehicles and here we see that there are discussions going on with a chief minister of India. If the government does not do due diligence and offers investment opportunity to companies with no credibility and track record of making EV's, we will loose in the long run. We emailed the company and got no response as of April 2021.
