The EV Drive
Let’s talk about your electric car drive between Mumbai and Pune. This guide is for cars like Tata Nexon EV, Tigor EV, MG ZS EV etc.
- Start your drive from Mumbai at 100% and start driving towards Navi Mumbai. Hit the Mumbai-Pune expressway and once you cross the Khalapur toll plaza, you will encounter the ghats and it is a constant uphill drive for 12-15 km. The uphill ghat does take a toll on the battery charge, but your electric car should drive effortlessly. Take the exit at Lonavala and arrive at The Fern Hotel, where there is a 50 kW charger. There is a Statiq 25 kW charger near the Lonavala Wax Museum as a backup.
- We estimate that you will reach Lonavala at 40% SOC if you have 100% charge from Mumbai in a Tata Nexon EV.
- All you need to do is to top up the charge for 45 minutes to be at 95% SOC. Use the Magenta app and start charging at the Fern hotel. If you are at the Lonavala Wax Museum, use the Statiq app to start charging.
- There are restaurants like - Peacock The Un-Restaurant to eat while your car charges.
- There is also the beautiful Valvan lake and dam near the charging station for an invigorating walk near the lake.
- Reviews
- The Statiq charger at the Lonavala Wax Museum is having 5 star reviews!
- Kalyana Gandham says
Thanks for setting up a charging station, particularly on Mumbai Pune highway. Though the place is a little bit inside from the main road, we are happy with the experience we got with the CCS charger. I used only the CCS2 fast charger till date for my Nexon EV, but this CCS also charged 49% in approx. 45 mins. App usage is also quite simple and on call support is also very nice
- Kalyana Gandham says
- The ChargeGrid charger at Fern Hotel also has 5 star rating
- MD Ajmal Reza says
Amazing Charging station, I charged my Vehicle very quickly with this charger
- MD Ajmal Reza says
- The Statiq charger at the Lonavala Wax Museum is having 5 star reviews!
- Once you finish charging, hit the expressway and you should reach Pune in one hour.

Time
If you use a petrol car, you would spend 3 hours 17 minutes driving and take a break of 20 min = 3 hours 37 min to reach Pune
If you use an electric car car, you would spend 3 hours 17 min driving and take 45 min for charging the car and yourself = 4 hours 2 min
The additional time in an electric car is 25 mins compared to an ICE car, which is not bad at all.
Costs
If you use a petrol car, the petrol costs would be around Rs 1320. If you use an electric car, the charging costs would be around Rs 400. Massive savings of Rs 900
Mobile Apps
The only mobile apps you will need for this journey are the Tata Power, ChargeGrid, Statiq, Pulse Energy & Plugshare
Slow Charging
The chargers at Lonavala either have a type 2 AC plug and 15 amp socket, so if you arrive late and a car is charging, you can use the 15 amp socket or the type 2 plug.
So guys, there you have it! Mumbai-Pune highway is electrified!
We also hope Tata Power install more points on this highway, that way EV owners will have adequate backup points during the journey. We also expect Zeon Charging to make an entry soon! Watch this space!
